about

Contained in these four albums (Brushstrokes, Splash, Electric Blue & Still Life) are songs I created in the late 90s, recorded to ADAT machines, which was the first time I began recording digitally. Prior to these recordings, I was recording to analog 4- and 8-track tape machines.
Besides using acoustic, electric and classical guitars, I used a Langejans acoustic guitar that had midi capabilities and was able to use sampled sounds of keyboards, woodwinds, harp and horns, and other interesting sounds. It was a very creative time for me, instrumentally.

I was encouraged by a number of friends to pursue this music. Thanks to Tom Gulotta for the new cover designs. Photo credits also to Sean Hagwell (brushstrokes, splash and still life) and Ian Keaggy (electric blue)... Thanks very much!

Still Life: This last of the four is back to being more mellow in concept. I wish to acknowledge friends Andy Martin and Tom Shinness, who have passed on into heaven. Andy wrote the main theme to “Alegria” and played classical guitar on this piece. This song ultimately became the very first 24-track recording that I recorded in my own studio. “Alegria” is also on Lights Of Madrid with real strings added. Tom played with me on “Old Friends,” “Growing Grass” (not the controversial kind) and “Blue Planet.”
These friends are truly missed!

One note about “Markings”—I recorded bits from many songs that went into this collection on multiple tracks and manually brought up and brought down faders –in and out of level for a dream-like effect.

I hope this collection will bring delight and inspiration to you.
