about

Original Cassette Liner Notes:
The latest in the series of Back Room Trax from the private collection of Phil Keaggy available to Club members only. Phil calls it a "special volume, made up of songs by family, by friends who live in the neighborhood, and by friends who came in for a visit from out-of-town." Recorded in Phil's home studio this is a collection by and with friends...and now available to friends, of Phil and Bernadette. (1994)

**LIGHT OF MY VISION**
This song was written about a year ago. It’s a straight ahead song with the flavor of “Shouts of Joy”. My kids think it sounds a bit like “Old McDonald Had A Farm”, but I think not. The “na-nas” were sung by me and an old friend of mine, Meredyth Carpenter, and a buddy and brother from Ohio. Lyrically, it’s about a pilgrimage through this life, and that the Good Shepherd will carry us when we get ourselves stuck in craggy places. Remember, “without a vision the people parish and are unrestrained.”

**RIVER OF LIFE**
An English sounding number primarily created by my friend Alan Bradley. Alan sang harmony and played guitars on this home spun track. Alan took Andy Asmus’ job with me on the road for about six months.

**THE GREATEST DISCOVERY**
I was asked to do this song for the Word album “Our Family”. I prefer by far, my home recording of this song over the “studio” produced version. I feel it conveys the heart of the story, which is about a young boy making the discovery that he has a brand new brother.

**ON EAGLES WINGS**
My sister Geri came for another visit last Spring, and while she was here, we wrote this song. The lyrics were primarily by Geri. It’s a song of hope and trust through the hard patches of life, with Jesus as our Anchor and our Rock.

**IN YOUR LOVE**
My friend and neighbor Raphael wrote this tune and I gave it a few twists and turns in the chords and melody. It’s got a band sound and the lyrics are simple yet express the greatest of all messages, God’s love! Good tune Ralph! May God bless your outreaching heart!

**ALL I NEED**
Another friend from Buffalo, New York came by for a visit. Frank and Lorrie came to see Nashville, and Frank and I cranked this little tune out one evening. Frank sings like Neil Young and I try my Dylan-esque voice. Frank is also playing a lead guitar part behind my lead. It feels like 1971 on this song. Good lyrics too, Frank!

**I LOVE AUTUMN**
Olivia wrote a poem about Autumn and Alicia helped her with the melody. I helped them arrange it and we recorded it one Autumn afternoon last year. It has a “Feeling Groovy” feeling about it. I love hearing my little girls sing!

**DOES IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS**
While we were recording “Crimson and Blue”, Phil Madeira, Wade James, John Sferra and I would jam. This is a sample of those jams. You can hear Phil’s B-3 organ good and loud on this one. He’s giving us the chord changes up front. I like the feel of this track, and the sound of my Les Paul through the Vox AC 30 amp. As usual, John and Wade are solid, just grooving!

**JILL**
Our little Olivia who is 10 years old, and has a good friend named Jill, who is 10 also. Jill loves Jesus, loves people, and animals too. This song I wrote for her. She actually asked me too. It’s one of my favorite new songs, God Bless Jill Bader, her brother Eric and mom and dad (Betty and Chuck).

**PSALM 73:21-26**
I recorded the demo of this song in 1982 in Kansas City. I’ve always loved this scripture passage. It should be meditated upon always. My friend Neal Williams would like this song to be recorded on an album someday. Me too!

**NOT A MOMENT TOO SOON**
This piece features our dear friend, Heather. Her dad wrote this song some years ago. Heather, who has been like a member of our family, like a daughter to me and Bernadette and a fantastic sitter and true friend to our children, wanted to give this song back to her father Don. It’s obvious that Don has truly discovered the wonderful gift of life in Jesus by his beautiful lyrics. Heather’s voice is sweet and convincing. I played the guitar trying to sound a little country, with a splash of Irish thrown in.

**I SEE MYSELF IN YOU**
This song was inspired by my son Ian and daughters Alicia and Olivia. Also a line from the Declaration of Independence, “the laws of nature and of nature’s God,” are true.

**REUNION OF FRIENDS**
I wrote this for my sister Geri and her family, our “reunion” as a family and friends in Christ. Jimmy A sings with me on this home recording. I like the message in this rendition. It became the blueprint for the “Crimson and Blue” recordings.

**ARROW JAM**
Alan Shacklock is the producer of my new album presently being recorded. On “Back Room Trax Volume 3” there is a song called “Arrow”. It was a consideration for the new album. Alan was putting down a grove for a small section of the song. Afterward, I played a guitar and jammed along.
