about

On Our Own (w john Sferra)-Back in early 1970 my Glass Harp band mate and pal John Sferra and I wrote this song. Later in 1970 this tune appeared on the Glass Harp’s debut album for Decca records. Just a few months ago John and I agreed to redo this song- so this is the 2020 version of tune that’s over a half a century old. I like how it turned out.

Cup Your Hands - I wrote the music to the lyrics that were written by my friend Brian Brookheart. Brian wrote the words to “I prayed for you” which is on the “All At Once” album.

Can’t Get There From Here- I wrote this song with good friend Ken Mansfield. Ken has an amazing history as a producer and has written many books. This collaboration was to be used in a promotional ad for his recent fictional book Philco. His books covering his history as Beatles Apple manager for the USA are really interesting and well written!

Musings with Lil Hoss Guitar-my friend Sam Skinner built a lovely acoustic guitar for me and in return I recorded a few pieces for him this is one of them. I recorded this with a capo at the second fret with the B string open to the nut. I overdubbed a second guitar part as well. The guitar is called Lil Hoss - a smaller version of Big Hoss- the guitar James Ryle used on the album I produced for him called “Treasures From The Archives” just a year before he passed away. God rest him!

Keep Marching Forward- I came up with the music to these lyrics written by my good friend David Hirsch. David is a mighty voice for the Gospel and a pastor in Virginia. This song is one of three songs on this collection that I cowrote with David.

Yet Will I Trust- this is an updated version of the song I wrote for my good friend Ken Hoover of Zion guitars. I’m playing a Moriah guitar built by John Mark Hampton which he loaned to me for this recording. Just like Zion guitars, John’s guitars are very well made ! God rest brother Ken as well!

A Tune For Townes- Last year my wife and I became grandparents for the first time ! What a joy he is in our lives!! I sketched this song quickly for our grandson but soon I plan to record a more complete and fuller version.

Be Right Where You Are- If I were making a real legit album this song would certainly be on it. I collaborated with singer/songwriter Pam Mark Hall. There is another song included in this collection that we wrote together as well. I love the theme of this song - lyrics by Pam, inspired by Galatians 5:22-23~ the fruit of the Spirit. This is a good message for this year of trials, covid and uncertainty and loss. Let’s remember, however that God is Faithful!

Classical Snippets - I strung together a few short pieces that I wrote and recorded with my beautiful Langejans classical guitar. Thank you Del!

To Believe- I wrote this song with singer/songwriter Tom Frye. Tom wrote mainly the words and I helped him with the music. Tom was inspired by a close friend who had recently passed away and while he was alive and still suffering, he left a great example of faith and perseverance. Both Tom and I recorded vocal tracks and this mix is my vocal version. Truly a beautiful tribute !

A Gift From Sam- Here is another tune with Sam Skinner’s lil Hoss guitar. I believe the intro indicates the alternate tuning I used. Thanks again brother!

All Around The World- this is another sweet song I wrote with Pam Mark Hall. I wrote the music- she, the lyrics and we both sang on this one. It’s a lullaby tune. Pam lives in CA and I live in TN -we just shared files and ideas across the internet. Thanks Pam!!

Here To There- Here’s another collaboration with brother David Hirsch. He was sharing with me a number of artists and songs from the past that impacted his life. When he asked me if I could incorporate the actual bits of those recordings, I was taken aback. How to- how to?!? Well I was determined to weave all these pieces together and this is my sketch or tapestry- if you will. I really enjoyed hearing these voices again! Thanks David for your vision!

Wildflower- here is a lost gem of a tune I found in an old hard drive. It was recorded around 2007. I put music to a beautiful poem written by my friend Joe Petelin. Joe and Cathy have always been supportive and encouraging to me and my music as well as the Glass Harp’s! Thanks friends!

How Do You See Me At Night - Here’s the third song in this collection co-written with David Hirsch. It’s really a prayer to the Father in Heaven. These are David’s lyrics and I wrote the music. I assisted David on his project “A Different Dream” by The Key Of David. It’s available on my website as well as David’s <Full Armor of God> website.

You Can Break Away- Lastly, but most earnestly I share this song with you. My daughter Olivia wrote the words for one of her friends who had a sad and extremely difficult home life. I helped Olivia with providing the music (and there is also a version of this song with her vocal, which I have a mind to include as a bonus track after I return from this present trip to Ohio.) There are so many who live as captives to others’ selfishness and greed. Jesus came to set the captives free! I pray this song may help encourage many to escape the snares and entrapments that have been laid to dominate and oppress the weak and vulnerable.

Thank you for listening
